Rava Idly



Rava – 300gms

Oil / Ghee – 50 gms

Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp

Broken Urid dhal-1 tsp

Bengal Gram-1/2 tsp

Cashew nuts (opt) – 2-3 ( split into small pcs)

Green chilly-3-4 ( finely chopped)

Ginger- 1 small piece ( finely chopped)

Curry leaves-1 string

Coriander-  1 tsp ( finely chopped)

Sour curd – ¼ ltr

Salt – To taste.

Vegetables ( carrot, peas)- 1 cup

Hing- 1  pinch


1.Put 25gms oil / ghee half  in the pan, roast the rava until it starts turning colour. Remove from fire and Keep it aside.

2. Heat the balance oil / ghee  and the mustard seed until it splutters then add one by one  in the order given above . Fry all the item s except coriander, mix the seasoning with the rava and add sour curd. If u don’t have sour curd add curd and little bit of lemon juice. Add grated carrots , boiled peas ,coriander, Hing and salt to taste. And, Keep the mixture aside for 10-15 mins.

3. Now  pour the batter on the idly plates of the idly vessel on a wet muslin cloth. Meanwhile, Keep the vessel filled with ¼ portion of water and allow it to boil once it starts to boil place the plates on it  and close the vessel. And wait till steam comes out. Now open the vessel sprinkle some water over it and then slowly transfer the idlies to a dry plate.

Calorific Value of 1 idly is 66 cal. Rava is a good source of Carbohydrates. Carrots are rich source of vitamin A in the form of beta carotene, which is good for eyes, hairs, skin  which is a helps in  improves vision, delaying the ageing process, and also helps the skin to glow . Also, green chillies are good source of  vitamin A,B,C and E it helps in enhancing the digestion process. Rava Idlies taste Good with coconut and Kara chutney.
