To Make Idly Podi


Black Urid dhal (skinned)-1 cup

Dry Chillies–  8 nos

Jeera– ½ tsp

Black Pepper– ½ tsp

Garlic -10-15 pods

Curry leaves-5 strings

Hing– ½ tsp

Salt to taste

Sesame -1/2 tsp (opt)


1.In a Kadai, Heat Gingelly oil fry the dhal till a nice aroma comes then add all the  items one by one  fry it till  it gets roasted.

2.Dry grind the Powder to fine powder form and  sieve it to remove the coarse particles.

3.Store it in a dry container.

Before serving make the paste of  Idly Podi with little Oil it can be Gingelly oil, Sesame oil or Oil heated with garlic pods.
