Aval Nanachathu


Brown or white Aval – 2 cups

Grated coconut – 3/4 – 1 cup

Jaggery /Sugar         – 1/2 cup, grated

Cardamom powder – 1 – 2 pinches (Optional)


  1. Sprinkle the little milk, over the aval using your fingers until the rice flakes are soft and wet, for 5 – 6 minutes. If it is dry, sprinkle some more milk.
  2. Add sugar/ jaggery, grated coconut and sprinkle cardamom powder. Mix well. Keep it aside for 20 minutes. Aval is also called as Beaten(flattened rice)/Rice flakes /Thin poha.

This is the most beloved dish for Lord Krishna. Even if you do not know to make any other dish. We can make this dish to get his blessings and love. This been depicted with an example of kuselan giving aval to lord Krishna as a mark of love.
